Lot Fourteen joins Global Institute of Innovation Districts

Posted April 26, 2023

Lot Fourteen has teamed up with Global Institute of Innovation Districts to advance one of the most promising models for 21st century innovation, work and urban living.

The Global Network of Innovation Districts is paving the way forward for districts to realise their economic and social potential – led by the Global Institute on Innovation Districts (GIID), with the help of approximately 43 districts from across Australia, Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Over the next year, Lot Fourteen will help in developing new approaches and systems for catalysing the growth of South Australia’s innovation districts, to develop a more sustainable model.

Through the Global Network, district leaders will share different templates for innovation districts; looking at different options for creating high quality environments where diverse populations can work, play and live – all in a compact setting.

Collectively, they will explore a range of issues, including how best to leverage unique R&D strengths; ambitious efforts to attract industry and investment; and organised responses to the pandemic and climate change.

Lot Fourteen State Project Lead, Di Dixon, says, “we are thrilled to be joining a network of like-minded innovation districts to maximise potential, by learning from high quality research and sharing best practices developed around the world.”

“The insights to come from the Global Network will help governments and investors see how to best help innovation districts to be engines of economic development, social inclusion and investment.”

Founder of The Global Institute on Innovation Districts, Julie Wagner, says, “in-depth research and on-the-ground practice demonstrate that successful innovation districts rely on a delicate balance between leveraging unique local assets and leading with intentionality.”

“Strategic engagements with other districts around the world that are experimenting and driving cutting-edge practice provide the key to unlocking such intentionality. This is the value of the Global Network.”

Lot Fourteen joins the Tonsley Innovation District as a member of this global network, further strengthening South Australia’s position as the epicentre of innovation in Australia.
